Folks who visit our furniture bank are assisted by hardworking case managers like Marquea Holford, a mental health associate for Cascadia Health.
When asked to describe the impact of Community Warehouse, she shared: "It can really be the difference between sleeping on the floor and having a bed. And for a lot of folks, whether it be physical disabilities or even mental health, it's a huge impact. You're going to get such a better night's sleep if you're in a bed. Your body and your mind are going to be so much stronger if you have a couch or an air conditioner."
Marquea highlights some of the reasons why: "When folks are camping outside, a lot of times they're living out of a cooler. To have the supplies that you need to be able to cook in your unit [helps you] not to have to fall back on those tendencies. You can buy food, you can actually cook...All of it works towards having sustainability."
When asked what community means to her, she shared this insight: "It's leveling the playing field. If you invite somebody over and you guys can sit down and have a meal together and you can chat on the couch comfortably, then you're starting a process of healing with your friends and community. Community to me is bringing folks back sustainably and at a level that makes them feel dignified and safe to share their world with someone else."
You can level the playing field for the families we serve by making a donation to Community Warehouse. Thank you for your time.
