Warm holiday greetings from everyone at Community Warehouse! We are in the midst of the end of year rush to schedule families who are moving off the streets and out of shelters into permanent housing in time for the holidays. Last week we filled 53 requests. As I’m writing this there are 430 individuals and families on our waiting list, and we are working hard to bring in the donations of in-kind goods to furnish their empty homes. A big part of what keeps us going is receiving handwritten notes like this one:
“I am a single mom with 6 kids who finally took the step of independence from a mentally abusive and domestic violence marriage of 20 years. I had no hope to provide all the basic needs from my children because I am struggling and pulling myself up by my own boots straps. I work full time and receive no cash assistance or child support because the father of my kids stopped working the day I filed for divorce.
I believe in living a peaceful and loving life surround by people that l love and love my children and me. On 10-21-11 my life changed for me and my children. When I was able to see my place furnished, we finally had a living room to sit in and chat - my kids and I; our dining table with all the fancy plates and silverware looked very pretty and decent to me. We all enjoy our meals in such a fancy set. Our bathrooms look very nice too with nice towels.
The happy smiles on my kids when they laid on their nice beds - especially my girls who loved pink, hearts and flowers...I was crying because YOU have made a difference in our lives. To see my kids happy in our HOME has no price, so it's not only the material, it is love from all those who make the Warehouse run that has touched our lives.
