Dear Warehouse Friends,
Happy New Year! As we shift into 2014 (wow!), we thought we’d share a brief reflection. 2013 was an amazing year for your local furniture bank:
We served 7,981 people (over a thousand more than in 2012).
Our Beds for Kids program had 33 donors.
We redistributed beds, blankets, and pillows to 3,788 children, and in the process kept over 500 tons of usable household goods out of Portland area landfills.
As incredible as these statistics are, we believe that personal stories are the best way to share success. We’re happy and humbled to pass along this story from a JOIN case manager who often brings her clients to the Warehouse:
“Belle is two - the youngest of four kids raised by their incredibly strong single mom. We recently moved them into a great apartment and I got them furniture from CW last week.
Today I was over there again with our truck, helping move the last of their stuff from the storage unit they hastily rented when they became homeless.
This afternoon while we restored their toys, clothes & moments to their apartment, Belle dozed on their new CW couch. I was struck by the fact that, just a month ago, Belle and her family had been living in a park in Gresham.
The image of her sleeping there - safe, surrounded by family, her toys and decent furniture - to me is what "Home" is all about.
Thank you so much for making that a reality for Belle and the thousands of others you help!
-Colleen Sinsky, Retention Worker at JOIN
From all of us at the Warehouse, thank you for your generous support during the holidays and beyond. Our work in the community truly would not be possible without you.
Warm regards,
Kristy
