The dorms are under construction!

By Nikki Shearman | Executive Director

The dorms are under construction
The dorms are under construction

We are pleased to report that, after a slight delay, the new dorms at the Sega Girls School are under construction - currently up to roof level!

They will be complete by the end of August, and, thanks to your support, will be furnished with beds and blankets for the 30 new students that will be joining the school in September.

The new intake will be selected from the local Morogoro city, and from Iringa, an area in the southwest of Tanzania, about 5 hours by bus from the School. All of the students selected will be vulnerable girls, who otherwise would be unable to attend school due to extreme poverty, but who dream of an education that gives them an opportunity for a better future.

We have been thrilled by the response to this project, that, including the matching bonus in March, has raised over $8,500 to date. Since this significantly exceeds our original target of $7,000 for beds and blankets, we decided to add on the cost of dormitory cabinets for the students to store all of their personal belongings. This brings our new target to $14,000.

Thank you for your support of this project, and for joining us in making a difference!
