Dear Sponsors,
We want to share a heartfelt update on Telo, one of our beloved big cats, and thank you for your continued support.
On the 27th of February, we sadly said goodbye to Dumas, Telo’s brother. A few months ago, Dumas was diagnosed with kidney failure. After consulting with our wildlife vet, we decided to let him live out his days comfortably until his condition worsened. When that moment came, we made the painful decision to put him to sleep to prevent further suffering. Dumas had a wonderful presence at DAKTARI, and his loss has touched all of us deeply.
Telo felt the absence of his brother and spent a few days looking for him. It was heartbreaking to witness, but Telo is slowly adjusting and has returned to his calm and curious self. He now seeks even more connection and seems to appreciate every bit of company he receives. One of his favorite moments is in the morning when Michele, our director, comes to visit. As soon as she calls, Telo walks to the fence, greeting her with gentle, happy roars—a special ritual that warms all our hearts.
Thanks to your support, we continue to provide Telo with the care, love, and attention he deserves. Your donations help us ensure his enclosure is safe and enriching, and that he gets all the medical attention and companionship he needs.
With gratitude and love,
The DAKTARI Team
