Selfcare that's more than skin deep

By Lesley Lowden-Smith | Trust Income Manager

Thanks to your amazing support, our young people were able to take a well-deserved pause this month with a digital selfcare session – and we’re so excited to share how it went!

In the days before the session, each young person received a small package in the post containing the key ingredients to make a nourishing face mask: oats, honey, and turmeric. They were also given ideas for fresh extras they might want to add from home – avocado for deep moisturising, lemon juice for brightening, and cucumber for cooling and soothing tired skin.

On the day, twelve young people logged on to connect, learn, and relax together. The session began with a simple step-by-step guide to making the mask, alongside tips on how these natural ingredients can support healthy skin and encourage relaxation. Oats gently exfoliate and calm irritation; honey is a natural humectant, locking in moisture; turmeric is renowned for its anti-inflammatory properties; avocado nourishes with healthy fats; lemon juice can refresh and even skin tone; and cucumber offers instant cooling comfort.

Once their masks were ready, the group applied them and spent time simply being together – chatting, laughing, and unwinding in a safe space where they could just focus on themselves. For young people who are often navigating fatigue, treatment after-effects, and the pressures of daily life, this was a rare moment to slow down and indulge in something purely for their own wellbeing.

Selfcare is more than skin deep – it’s about giving young people tools to manage stress, connect with others, and remember that they deserve time and kindness, especially for themselves. Thanks to you, they were able to take that time and experience the benefits first-hand.

Your generosity helps create these moments of calm and connection for young people living with and beyond cancer – and we are so grateful for your continued support.
