At our bi-annual motivational conference Discover You, we hosted a number of sessions that gave the young people some wellbeing skills that they could take away with them as well as support them with some advice to help improve their self-esteem and embrace their new look.
We were visited by a professional make up artist who helped with some make over tips that recreated eyelashes and eyebrows so often lost in treatment, shading techniques that helped to frame the face, and advice on colours which would suit a new complexion.
A skincare specialist visited with her analyser which took six pictures of the teens faces, and assessed their skin, highlighting needs such as dry patches or a need for more sun protection.
The young people also learned some relaxing hand massage techniques that they can use on themselves if they feel a little stressed or tired. And the sessions continued with mini manicures.
The effects that cancer and its treatment can have on appearance can be demoralising and very hard to cope with, so small sessions like these, are a real treat as well as giving some confidence for the young people to move on in all aspects of their lives. So, to everyone who has contributed to this project, a big thank you.
