Beat the Bottle: Recycling Plastics to Lumber

The project has started with a face to face meeting session with the various key stakeholders towards project initiation, preparation and programming. Key brain storming was aimed at how to effectively mobilize youths and effectively carry out Awareness Raising and sensitization of community members, Training and collection of plastic bottles which is littering the streets, clogging sewers and encroaching on people’s properties. Key stakeholders present were the S.D O, Mayor,Chief Sensitization officer of the Ministry of Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable development, Bamenda City Council, Chiefs, Quarter heads and project team.

Currently we are using both Traditional and digital approach on reaching out to the entire community. This includes radio, door to door Campaign, Banner, social media, flyers outlets to sensitize the public on our project objectives, awareness raising and mobilization of youths to register and join our program on beating the bottle and recycling into building materials. we have started the pick up of bottles within our focus area and a total of about 50kg of plastic bottles has been collected. Futher, 10 youths are already fully involved in the project at the phase of collection. Our project has been suspended due to COVID 19 pandemic as we advocate for safety. we shall continue to attain project objectives as soon as our planet is healed.
