#Beacon24, a charity 24 hour endurance run, walk and cycle was held on the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd July. The route was a 10k loop set at Beacon Hill Country Park and participants could set their own goals by choosing the distance they wished to cover.
Shaun Crowson, Simon Hardy and Falcon Support Services organise the annual event which is in its second year to raise awareness of homelessness and funds for Falcon Support Services.
We were lucky the weather improved and a total of 122 participated in the event. Family and friends camped on the site to support their loved ones throughout the 24 hours and this contributed to a great atmosphere. Fun activities such as face painting, a raffle, games and refreshments were available.
It was great to have running and walking clubs from across Leicestershire take part, and the support and team morale made a real difference to everyone.
The furthest distance completed was 90 miles by Darryl Hughes, which matched #Beacon24’s current record. Whether participants completed 1 lap, or 15 laps everyone was truly inspirational and achieved or surpassed their own personal targets.
Rachel Hall from Falcon Support Services said “We were overwhelmed by the support this year from community members and businesses, in particular Be Street Smart, Sam Woodward Painting and Decorating, East Midlands Airport, Tesco, Robert Hardy Gas Services Ltd and Plumb Center Loughborough that sponsored the event. It was amazing to see the event triple in size from last year, and we would like to thank everyone who took part or supported the event.”
The total raised so far is £1940.93, with further sponsorship money to come in. If you would like to sponsor the participants or donate to Falcon Support Services, you can do so at www.globalgiving.co.uk/projects/beacon24.
#Beacon24 is an annual event and will return in 2017.
