Recently BARKA received assurance that Rotary Club of Marblehead, a longstanding Massachusetts-based development partner, has committed to funding in 2023.
Rotary of Marblehead's latest commitment will fund logistics and implementation costs associated with drilling and building wells in the communities of Fada N'Gourma, capital of Burkina Faso's eastern region.
There continues to be a dire need for clean water particularly in the eastern region, where a large influx of internally displaced persons - moving to Fada because of security concerns in rural areas - has added enormous stress on a water management system that was already insufficient to meet the population’s needs.
Rotary's funding is anticipated by June 2023. Until then, BARKA staffers are engaged in planning and coordination of the additional components of the project. We do this by applying our experience leading two previously successful Rotary implementations that benefitted more than 20,000 people. These activities include:
We depend on our GlobalGiving donors to support BARKA's community-based efforts for adoption. We are committted to promoting sustainable solutions that respect the cultural context of local communities.
