Street Children Comprehensive Help
50-85 breakfasts have been provided to street children and other poor throughout the past few months. The children have gotten either buttered bread or cake with either tea or a banana and a few candies to take with them. Fund provided for the three months was given by Bill Genova of the USA. The PEP staff based in Dhaka have assisted daily for providing the breakfast. A few children have also gotten some medical assistance.
Little Rakib asked for help to get new pants. Learning of this request, Nurun Nabi Talukder, retired Secretary of the government, has provided him with new pants and a shirt, bringing a beautiful smile to his face. With winter weather having started, 140 export quality sweaters were provided by Sweater Makers Ltd. free of cost. The donated sweaters are valued at $1,050. It is the 2nd year in a row where this company has donated the warm clothing. Keya Amanullah, whose family lives in Dhanmondi of Dhaka and who is wife of Dr. Musaddeque Ahmad of the USA, has arranged the donations.
Every Friday and Saturday after the morning breakfast, interested children attend an outdoor school session with volunteer teachers. For many children, it is their only chance to get literacy training.
Plans have been made for at least 50 street children to have an excursion to Safari Park about 50 kilometers from Dhaka. They will be able to see various animals, have special children’s entertainment and enjoy good food. Costs for the special day will be shared by PEP and Shudha, an organization which assists PEP for education and cultural activities for the children.
PEP expresses deepest gratitude to all the donors for assisting these otherwise neglected children to have some of their basic needs met.
