Ulahannan, aged 54, is disabled and can't work due to loss of cervical lordosis (Grade 1 anterolisthesis which does not permit him to work. He was a daily labor who used to earn his daily bread. a native of Padinjarathara Panchayath, residing at Konthamankalom Kunn living with his wife along with their 4 children. His elder son is disabled (orthopedic) and has twins pursuing their Plus two grades and the last child in her 1st standard. The entire family completely lost hope in life when a big tree fell right above their roof which was temporarily covered and built by his friends and neighboring people. He was among the hundreds who had lost their homes in the August 2019 floods due to a landslide. His home, built on a three-cent plot, had been damaged partially in 2018 floods and completely in the 2019 deluge.
Family members shared that their daily prayer is to find ways to have a shelter, which will not cost their lives while sleeping. They narrated an incident, which took place months back. After losing their poorly maintained house they got to live in a temporarily built house with the support of the villagers. One night the tree, which overshadows their house, fell right on to the top of the roof, which came collapsing the whole wall on to the ground. By God's grace and luck, no one was sleeping that night at that place. Since the father was not keeping well the family members were attending to his medical needs and care. It was a nightmare for them since that night. Their hopes of getting a house from the government have faded since the pandemic.
Project vision a project under Hope society has made many attempts to address these issues since the post floods in rehabilitation and providing permanent shelters. Due to a shortage of funds, we are unable to work on a larger scale. Likewise, we identify each deserving case and address their need and try to help the family get a new shelter. Hence we request the support and help from our GlobalGiving donors to help us build a house for this needy family.
During the last 3 months, we were able to hand over a house build for Julie, which was funded by Muthoot.
Julie's family consists of her disabled son and her husband. The family has major financial issues and were in a rented house. The only son needs 24/7 assistance due to his disability. He can only walk with the support of his parents. Due to the child’s illness, they could not save money for a house due to treatment expenses. Overseeing their plight Muthoot a financial institution supported the project vision with funds to build a house for them. Which was completed and handed over on the 30th of October 2020.
Thanks for all the support and concern.
