Subaitha, a 43 year old women had the misfortune to be married to an interminable patient. She discovered about her husband’s condition only after her wedding. Yet, she did not disclose her situation to her family owing to their terrible financial status. Long before his marriage, Subaitha’s husband accidently fell from a tree and severely damaged his lower body. He lost the blood circulation ability to his lower half of his body. He doesn’t feel any sensations and his body turned numb below his waist. The couple have no children. Due to this tragic incident, he has no control over his urination. Right now he is assisted with a tube and a bag to pass urine. Following up to his tragedy, one day he injured his back due to fire accident and he was not even aware of it due to his inability to feel sensations. This wound has had a deep impact and is yet to heal till date.
This unhealable wound requires dressing every day. The wound even if doesn’t heal, sometimes it gets worsen. Subaitha has been the only person in her husband’s life who cleans the wound every single day. The cost for them is around Rs 500/- per week. His walking ability has been affected quite drastically due to the presence of a wound on his lower hip. After medical enquiries, Doctors have suggested for an immediate operation, but are still unsure about a complete recovery. Subaitha, herself has got a weak heart condition and a tumour in her uterus. Due to this conditions, she is unable to work since three years. Daily life and expenses are hardly met, they are able to marginally survive due to the support and help of their neighbouring families.
In 2018, during the tragic Kerala floods, their house was severely damaged. There was a temporary arrangement made to cover the roof with a flex sheet provided by the neighbours. Yet again in 2019, due to heavy rains, their entire house collapsed. They had to shift to a small cattle shed as a temporary home. The utmost need for a permanent shelter has become a dire necessity. Subaitha’s husband cannot live in a temporary shed without a toilet. Our team with a little help were able to build them a temporary toilet. Still their dream of living under a permanent roof and house can never be realised without others help and support. We plan to build a permanent house with the donations we get from global giving platform.
The cost of a 450 Sqft of house with toilet will cost us around USD 7000. The panchayat has not yet decided or planned to sanction a house for them in the near future. This is a very deserving case of flood-affected disaster recovery.
Lets give them a ray of hope towards sharing of Love to one another.
Let Everyone Live.
