Report on Back to school program

By K R Raju | Project Director

Final Report: VDC started this project in September 2019 and completed in August 2020. During the COVID 19 period, we are unable to conduct the Child Learning Centres (CLCs). We pay visit to the door steps of few students and helped them to attend the online classes for the higher level students. Many of them are not are direct beneficiaries. Due to the prolonging of COVID 19, VDC was forced to change its goal post from education to awareness building and relief activities on prevention of COVID-19 among children and their parents. We created awareness about COVID-19 among children, adolescents and parents by explaining its specific symptoms, the manner of spreading, preventive measures from COVID-19 infections, the importance of hand washing with sanitizers and wearing masks, self-quarantine and self-isolation, the real meaning of individual distancing, whom to approach if the symptoms persist, etc. VDC provided them with three-layer fabric masks prepared by our experienced women tailors of our women Self Help Groups (SHGs) at free of cost. VDC also collected donations in cash and in-kind and distributed rice, groceries, and vegetables to the families of our target children families. We involved some of our volunteers for counseling the children and parents through mobiles to cope-up with the new situation. The volunteers advised the entire family members to take steps to prevent COVID -19 infections by following the preventive measures. Since the Government declared pass to all school-going children from their respective classes, we advised children to study the next year syllabus at home. VDC advised the parents to provide nutrient food to improve their immune system of children during their stay at home and make the children enjoy the family life with their family members. Further, we asked the parents to prepare the children to involve in organic kitchen gardening. VDC once again expresses its gratitude to those donors who contributed a lot to make our program objectives to get materialized.
