Dear Friends,
Last year you made a donation to our Global Giving Campaign on Adolescent Youth Literacy Initiatives. Since then, we have forged a partnership with the Star City Soccer Foundation in Roanoke that provides afterschool tutoring and homework help to as many as 60 immigrant and refugee high schoolers each week. The tutor coordinators have stated that many of the youth are now comparable to and--in some cases--even exceeding their American-born peers on SOL practice tests! The program's participants are also involved in character-building sports activities that occur both during the academic year and in the summer.
Our current campaign on Global Giving focuses on a range of capacity building programs that include pre-college preparation. Unfortunately, this campaign has not gained much momentum, and there are only two days left to raise funds. I am writing to ask that you consider making another donation to the Coalition for Refugee Resettlement / Pilot Street Project. Programming for youth is clearly linked to the overall capacity of newcomer communities. Your gift will help us to reach our fundraising goal. Even more, your gift helps newcomers to learn English, prepare for postsecondary education and technical training, and earn their citizenship.
Thanks for considering this request.
