The Aventureros are flexing their curiosity about marine life in and around our home of Bahia de Los Angeles, a UNESCO World Heritage site. From our base of operations at the Vermilion Sea Field Station, we get together and learn how to use kayaks, paddleboards, and snorkeling equipment to aid us in our explorations. Kayaks and paddleboards are heavy and awkward for little hands, that is until the Aventurero kids join together to help one another safely launch and put away our shared equipment.
Thanks to our wonderful supporters, we are also now able to hire local experts to take us on their motorized “pangas” so that we can explore further into the bay, its waters, and over the deep trenches that teem with biodiversity. One recent Sunday, before setting off, Chino gave this younger generation of Aventureros some expert tips. Including how to stay safe and what to look out for during their full day of exploration. We tracked our progress throughout the day on a physical map to better orient ourselves within the immense bay. We jumped from the boat to visit mangroves, to snorkel, we saw dolphins, and we learned about the names of the islands. It was a day full of learning, adventure, and anticipation.
Thank you for your interest in our program and for helping us in our mission.
