Over the past month, thanks to a donation received through GlobalGiving for our project "Care for 200 HIV-positive immigrants in Puerto Plata," we have been able to strengthen our efforts to rescue abandoned individuals and provide transportation support for vulnerable patients. These funds enabled us to provide 15 transportation services to people living with HIV who were abandoned, and we also provided one transportation service to rescue a patient who was abandoned within the community.
The rescues were carried out by a team from the SAI (Comprehensive Care Service), comprised of a nurse, a navigator, and a psychologist, who provided guidance, educational talks on the importance of antiretroviral treatment, and support focused on improving adherence. Thanks to your support, we were not only able to cover these expenses but also to reinforce the patients' commitment to their treatment.
Success story. Thanks to the support provided, we were able to travel to rescue a patient who had gone 11 months without antiretroviral treatment. The patient had developed skin lesions that caused him pain whenever he tried to sit or lie down. Our team made several visits to treat his wounds, and together with a psychologist, we were able to improve his adherence to treatment and reintegrate him into the healthcare system. Today, he is stable.
