Empowering Young Minds with Hurricane Preparedness & Math Literacy

We are excited to share an update on our At Home Discovery Kit program! Thanks to your generous and ongoing support of our GlobalGiving campaign, At Home Discovery Kits for VI Families (#47832), we are finalizing a vital new resource designed to keep children in the U.S. Virgin Islands safe, resilient, and academically engaged.

Reflecting on Our Last Milestone: At Home Discovery Kit #10

While our previous plan was to build Kit #10 around celestial bodies, our final execution adapted to better serve our young learners! During the Worldwide Day of Play at the Virgin Islands Children's Museum on September 27, 2025, we welcomed the community with a free admission day and proudly launched our 10th At Home Discovery Kit: The Early Numeracy and Math Literacy Kit.

Designed for kids from pre-K to 3rd grade, this kit was created to help children develop foundational math skills through hands-on activities. It was a massive success, containing items such as:

  • Colored pencils/ crayons
  • Pre-cut, color-coded shapes
  • Age-appropriate reader books
  • Math geometry activity sheets

This distribution was made possible with the invaluable support of YOU, Math Happens, VI EPSCoR, and VIMAS, allowing us to distribute 100 kits directly to local families!

Introducing At Home Discovery Kit #11: Hurricane Preparedness & Math Literacy

Building on that math-focused momentum, our upcoming 11th At Home Discovery Kit shifts our focus to a critical reality of living in the Caribbean: hurricane preparedness and coastal safety.

This brand-new multilingual kit uniquely merges emergency readiness with math literacy. Tailored for three distinct developmental stages—early learners, middle grades, and advanced learners—the kit will help children explore the mathematical concepts behind weather tracking and hazard mapping while learning vital resilience skills.

By engaging with these materials, kids will explore the significance of coastal hazards and their impact on daily living, fostering a deeper understanding of environmental risks and promoting proactive measures for safety and preparedness.

Mark Your Calendars: Summer 2026 Distribution Events

Your Impact in Action

The At Home Discovery Kit program is an ongoing fundraising initiative. Every dollar raised directly funds the sourcing, packing, and free distribution of these educational kits to families who need them most.

We are deeply grateful for your continued belief in our mission. Together, we are equipping the children of the USVI with the tools they need to stay safe, think critically, and keep learning.

With heartfelt gratitude,

The VICM Team
