Child engages in Paper Mountains activity DKIII
The Virgin Islands Children's Museum has remained committed to being an informal education resource for Virgin Islanders and therefore developed our At Home Discovery Kit program to support families in their homes during this pandemic. We are pleased to report that your charitable contributions helped us to create At Home Discovery Kits for 950 youth throughout the territory. Discovery Kit III was an Earth Science kit that included activity books, coloring pages, a globe ball toy, stickers and the materials needed to do a paper mountains watershed activity; an information page, blank paper, a box of 6 washable markers, a shop towel, and a pipette.
Many children are schooling from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Your funds helped us supply families with the tools needed to keep kids engaged and inspired to create and learn at home. By distributing hands on activities to children throughout our community we facilitate family engagement and hope to inspire a continued interest in learning by providing fun and interactive ways to do so.
Our distribution partners included 19 public service and youth organizations. We provided activities and art supplies to numerous home school groups/ families, twenty private school or youth organizations, and children that attend five different public schools as well as low income families (approximately 300) that were reached through our community service partners that specialize in working with those in need.
The At Home Discovery Kit program is ongoing and our next distribution will be a Winter/ Climate science discovery kit curated for elementary school-aged children and middle-high school aged youth to be distributed in early March. Thank you for helping us help kids Explore, Play, Discover, at home.
