Assistive Devices and Education Program

In collaboration with various organizations and stakeholders, we successfully conducted an assessment of 10 children with disabilities, with the goal of providing them with assistive devices, primarily wheelchairs. This initiative took place from January to March 2025 and targeted children in both a government school and surrounding communities. The aim was to improve mobility and enhance the quality of life for the beneficiaries. In addition to distributing the devices, we organized educational sessions for caregivers and teachers, equipping them with essential knowledge and skills on basic therapeutic interventions to support the children's ongoing development.

Visited by Teretta Team and Kinsale Students

In February 2025, we had the privilege of hosting a group from the Teretta Team alongside students from Kinsale who visited our project to gain firsthand insight into the services we provide. During their visit, the group had the opportunity to meet one of our beneficiaries and learn about the impact of our work. In addition to observing our regular process of providing assistive devices, the team and students generously donated clothes, further supporting our ongoing efforts to assist those in need. Their visit proved to be a valuable opportunity for learning and engagement, and we are grateful for their contributions and continued support.

ADC Summit in Tanzania

We were honored to deliver a presentation on the role of communities in the inclusion of persons with disabilities at the ADC summit in Tanzania, using the country as a case study. The presentation highlighted both the challenges and opportunities in promoting inclusion at the community level, emphasizing the importance of local involvement in supporting individuals with disabilities. In addition to that, we facilitated a visit to one of our fieldwork sites, which serves as a center for over 33 children with both mental and physical disabilities. This visit allowed participants to experience our work firsthand and gain valuable insights into our approach to disability inclusion. The success of this event was made possible through the generous support of Tawingo, whose contribution allowed us to facilitate both the presentation and the field visit.

HBC Training with Faraja Forward

In collaboration with Faraja Forward, we successfully conducted a three-day training program at the Arusha Rehabilitation Center, attended by 29 community health workers and members of Faraja Forward. This training was designed to build foundational knowledge about disabilities, covering key topics such as types, signs, and communication strategies. Practical skills were introduced, including proper positioning and handling techniques for children with physical disabilities. The final day of the program reinforced these skills with additional training on sitting and feeding techniques, as well as behavior modification strategies. Throughout the sessions, participants engaged in group discussions, demonstrations, and hands-on practice to apply their learning. By the end of the training, participants had gained valuable insights and practical skills to better support children with disabilities in their communities.
