We were thrilled at giving Arts-Based Therapy sessions in this home for abused girls. We saw such amazing expression of emotions in a very short time. But...
an order came from up high in the Social Welfare Department, banning all members of other NGOs or visitors to spend any time in these homes for abused girls.
We were told of this ban by the caretakers of the home and so decided to make an official request. We wrote a letter and attached documents stating our case and received a response shortly after. The Social Welfare Department was directing us to ask the Child Welfare Committee.
Confident that the CWC would allow us to continue (since they had allowed us to work all the previous year in the Government Girls'Home) we wrote to them also.
They denied our request without any kind of explanation. So we spoke to the Chairperson over the phone who said it had come from the DCPU (District Child Protection Unit).
We also don't quite understand their stand, since all of the above continue to send abused, pregnant teenagers to our home, Tejus Home, and place them under our care (I am the Managing Director and my colleague is the therapist).
Paperwork, paperwork, paperwork...we are yet to go and personally visit the DCPU and get answers and hopefully an agreement that we can continue this precious work.
In the meantime, we thank you for your support...we do do Arts-Based Therapy with the girls in our home.
