New Year art-therapy

By Anna Kalmatskaya | Project coordinator

Making New Year applications
Making New Year applications

December and January were nice Christmas and New Year months that we tried to make as joyful as possible for small patients in National Institute of cancer. We were limited because of Flu epidemic and quarantine, but we still could hold two art-therapy lessons for children on December 16 and December 23 where volunteers were making New Year cards and Christmas decorations together with children.

On January 8 we came to congratulate our small friends with New Year. Because of quarantine we couldn’t make big event and gather all children in the hall. So one of us, representing Santa Claus, visited each ward and presented gift to each child. Then we went to department’ dispensary where we gathered children and made New Year applications with them.

On January 14 we made the purchase and transfer of 30 drawing sets for children: linen canvases and brushes. We want to deeply thank our donors for they made it possible!

We also used Christmas time to hold charity bazaar to collect money to buy some medical equipment for the department. So we held charity bazaars on December 25 and could raise enough money to buy plasma extractor for the department. We presented plasma extractor, together with juice packages, to the department in the end of January.

We keep holding charity bazaars as our next goal is to buy blood mixer for the department. We held already two bazaars on February 13, on the eve of Saint Valentine’s Day, and on March 5.

Since February we moved our art-therapy classes to the department’ dispensary. This is a place for kids who are there in the breaks between courses of chemotherapy. As we have few volunteers of different nations (Russians, Baltic, Japanese and others) we decided, along with origami and drawing courses to hold culture day once a month presenting each time some different culture and practicing together with children some art specific for that nation.

We want again to say great thanks to all our donors who made their sincere support to our project!
