What the Scholarships Mean to our Students

By McKay Savage | Development Manager

Our dear friends,

In the spirit of Thanksgiving we wanted to reflect on our year past and personally thank all of you once again for your support. Over the year we've shared with you stories of what the students are up to and why it is important to them, but today we want to share with you something really special: a video of what the scholarships you support mean to them made by the students themselves!

Each year in September we celebrate the year's graduates of our Scholarship Program and welcome in a new group of students. Each year we are so impressed with the skills, confidence, passion and dedication they have cultivated all year. Each year we are so impressed by how much they have grown.

But don't take our word on it, hear theirs!

CLA Scholarship Program Video by the Students

Each student has a unique story of what the program means to them.

Sorya reflects her aspirations: "I hope the scholarship will offer me the chance to improve myself. I met a former student who used to be quiet and shy. Now they are really active thanks to the program. I feel I will be like that too after this scholarship opportunity."

Huyno shares what's important, "We don't just receive funding for our skills and training, we also have the chance to develop our value."

And Senghuy tells us the difference the program makes, "When I decided to learn to draw, others in my village asked me how I could survive from the arts? Will I be able to earn a living? They don't value arts as a profession. They think more of careers like doctor, accountant, and so on that can get much larger salary. Now everyone in my village knows me. I feel so proud of this.

These young people's stories of opportunity and ambition is still being written.

As a CLA supporter you can see the difference you have made in these students' lives.

Please consider donating to our program once again and help us support another year of bright, in-need students to study, grow and become artists.

For this #GivingTuesday and the holiday season GlobalGiving provides matching gifts so your gift today goes even further in helping young artists achieve their dreams.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone from all of us here at Cambodian Living Arts!
