Our Scholarship Students - Discovering, Sharing & Helping Others

Thank you very much for your support for the Arn Chorn-Pond Living Arts Scholarship Program, your support enables us to provide an arts or English language scholarships to young, Cambodian artists, who otherwise may not have the opportunity to study the art form they love to do.

I hope you enjoy this update of what our scholarship students have been up to other the past 3 months:

The last 3 months have been an exciting time for the students, as they near the end of the current year of their scholarship program. It has revolved around experiencing and learning about art forms that they may not be as familiar with and has given them a chance to share their ideas about other genres of art with each other and we hope it will help to inform the practice of their own chosen art form.

In May, as part of their monthly workshop with Cambodian Living Arts (CLA) staff, the students took a contemporary art tour, conducted by local art gallery, Sa Sa Bassac in Phnom Penh. They visited many galleries in the city and learnt from the gallery curators about a number of Cambodian artists, working in contemporary art. It was an exciting visit for everyone, many of whom had never visited an art gallery before.

In June, we at CLA were moved to hear that one of our students; Ung Kakada, who studies English language through his scholarship, has started teaching English classes to young children in his village for free. He not only brings great value to the children, but also helps him to learn teaching and practical language skills. We are very proud of his kindness and generosity to his community.

Just last week, our scholarships coordinator at CLA; Awatd, visited the Royal University of Fine Arts, where many of our scholarship students study. She enjoyed watching the performance pieces that the students had to prepare to pass their second semester exams for their degrees. She reported back how wonderful it was to see them doing what they loved and how professional and confident their performances were. We wish them every luck in the world with their exam results!

We want to continue supporting more young Cambodian artists to realize their dreams of becoming professional artists and study the art form they love, but we could do this without the generous support our donors like you. We hope you will continue to support us today.

Thank you very much from all the staff and students at Cambodian Living Arts!
