Things are looking bright!

Nurse Veronika with the Mama Bus
Nurse Veronika with the Mama Bus

Hi all,

Hereby the periodic update from the Driving Nurses team! Finally, the world is opening up again after being locked up for over 2 years due to the Coronavirus. This also means we can finally resume our plans again. But first: let's look back at some achievements of last year because we are really proud of them!

  • At the Mama Bus in Lower Moshi, in 2021 over 5,300 expectant mothers, newborns and young kids have been checked and treated where necessary. This is a growth of 35% compared to 2020.
  • In 2022, our nurse Veronika performed 202 ultrasounds on the Mama Bus. With this, we contribute significantly to the timely detection of issues surrounding pregnancy and the estimation of the due date.
  • In addition to prenatal care, post-natal care and information, the Mama Bus in Lower Moshi also provides the national vaccination- and deworming program. Last year, almost 700 vaccinations have been administered on the Mama Bus.
  • HPV programs have also been rolled out in all primary and secondary schools, so that all girls in the region are protected against HPV infection.

As we have shared in our previous report, we've announced the start of our new Mama Bus project in Karatu. The project is progressing at a rapid pace and the goal is to have the bus up and running by the end of this year. As the ongoing corona perils prevented our foundation from visiting Tanzania the last year, hopefully we can return to Tanzania again this year, so we can be there in the start-up phase of the new Mama Bus.

Next to our project in Karatu, the first steps have also been taken for a new Mama Bus project in the area of Himo. Hopefully we can share more about this soon :)

Warm greetings,

The Driving Nurses Foundation
