Learn about our recent visit to Kidzania

By Stephanie Ahlgrain | Fundraising Manager at Amextra

Thank you for your interest in learning what we´ve been up to in Tultitlán the last few months! The first two weeks in December were great, as we had two educational visits outside the Amextra Community Center for the children and adolescentes we work with.

We had two opportunites presented us- first to go to the Cisco Systems office for a robotics course, and then to go to Kidzania, an educational theme park with over 70 attractions based on the jobs and carrers needed by a city.  We decided to invite the older children (10-17 years old) to Cisco, and then the younder children (3-9 years old) to the event at Kidzania.

During the Cisco event, one of the childrens´ favorite parts was making the robot they created move around the classroom, stopping when it´s eye-like sensor detected an object 4 inches or less away.  They also loved touring the Cisco building, stopping on the 17th floor for a few minutes to watch the planes fly in and out and observe the world at hundreds of feet above ground.  For almost all the kids this was their first time in an elevator and their first time in a skyscraper!

While at Kidzania two weeks later, the children walked around bright-eyed looking at all the mock businesses and pretending to be an adult for the day. They made cinnamon bread at Dominos, pretended to be journalists at a local newspaper, got a driver´s license and learned about traffic laws, and spent their day´s earnings on real good like pencils and toys from the Sanbourns store.

We are so happy to have these opportunities to take these kids outside their community and allow them to imagine a wide variety of options for their futures.  Your donations allowed us to pay for transportation for both of these trips. This wouldn´t have been possible without you!

All the best,

Stephanie
