This past Friday, January 11, 2019, kids from the Sierra de Guadalupe, El Cerrito, and El Basurero communities excitedly arrived at the Amextra Community Center in Tultitlán to see what the Three Kings brought.
Thanks to a collaboration with the technology company Cisco, 40 kids´ wish for new books or toys come true. In December, the children wrote their letters to the Three Kings (Cisco employees), who then worked their magic to make the children’s´ wishes become a reality. Some of the volunteers this day from Cisco were already familiar with Tultitlán, having participated in the day of playground repairs and painting back in September of last year. We love that Mexico City Cisco employees are building relationships in Tultitlán!
As the children bring home their new dolls and dinosaurs, we hope they smile remembering not only the gift, but the experience of sharing bread and time with peers and adults that care about them.
From September to December, we worked with 48 children in tutoring and classes to bring kids up to grade level, English classes, Saturday math classes and computer literacy workshops. 42 children have worked with our psychologist through group and individual sessions, and are receiving the accompaniment they need.
During events such as the Three Kings Day gift delivery, we remind parents and children of the health and education services provided by Amextra in Tultitlán. Thorough these events we hope to strengthen the community fabric and unite the community in celebration of some of its youngest members. We are so appreciative to the Cisco volunteers who helped make this event a reality, and to all those who support Tultitlán all year so we can provide health and education services. We can´t wait to accompany Tultitlán in 2019 during its process of holistic transformation!
