Since October 7, 2023, Americares has worked to address the urgent health needs of children and adults affected by the crisis. We remain steadfast in our commitment to support health services for people in Gaza suffering from famine, malnutrition, forced displacement and violence by prioritizing the most urgent medical needs of civilians caught in the crossfire. Our work includes increasing access to medical care, medicine, medical supplies and mental health support.
After three years of relentless violence, aid blockages and forced displacement, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to put lives at risk. Children are acutely malnourished, there are no fully functioning hospitals, thousands are sheltering in tents with inadequate water and sanitation and little protection from harsh weather, and aid remains restricted. At the same time, the psychological toll of war and chronic displacement compound Gaza's health crisis.
Americares plays a critical role by delivering essential medicine and medical supplies, supporting desperately needed health services and funding mental health support for children and adults coping with stress and trauma. Working with trusted partners on the ground, Americares has supported medical care for over70,000 patientsand mental health services for over 38,000 people in Gaza. Americares has also awarded more than $1.8M in emergency funding to address urgent health needs in Gaza.
Contributions will support the provision of health-focused humanitarian aid as well as response and recovery programming, including mental health support. The crisis is incredibly complex and continuously evolving. We know the longer the war goes on, the more support will be needed for survivors and frontline responders. We have a long history of supporting health care systems in the region with deliveries of medicine and medical supplies, and support for health programs.
