Thank you for your support of Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes.
Funds raised at Step Out support our mission: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. We accomplish this through research, advocacy and education.
A few of our highlights include:
Diabetes EXPO: Held annually at the Oregon Convention Center and serves over 5,000 community members interested in the latest information on diabetes. This event is free of charge.
Safe at School: Last year, 178 schools and 1,333 school personnel throughout Oregon and SW Washington received free training on how to care for children in their schools living with diabetes.
Research: In fiscal year 2012, the American Diabetes Association's Research Program invested approx. $34.6 million in diabetes research. In 2013, Christopher Madden, PhD at OHSU received a three year grant in the amount of $333,500 to study Pyschosocial Behavioral Medicine, Obesity. Kevin Grove, PhD at OHSU received a three year grant in the amount of $130,500 to study Obesity at the Oregon National Primate Research Center. Ana Quinones, PhD at OHSU received a five year grant in the amount of $839,959 to study complex chronic care needs for older minorities with diabetes.
