On Saturday, September 22, over 1,300 registered Walkers, 100 volunteers and our sponsors came together and raised over $140,000 for diabetes research, advocacy and education.
DIABETES STATISTICS
With your help, locally we are able to provide the following:
Diabetes EXPO
Held annually at the Oregon Convention Center, EXPO serves over 5,000 community members interested in the latest information on diabetes. While at this free event people have access to screenings, education, healthy eating and active living demonstrations, workshops and “Ask the Expert” consultations.
Safe at School
Last year, 178 schools and 1,333 school personnel throughout Oregon and SW Washington received free Safe at School training to ensure that children with diabetes remain safe while attending school.
Family Link
Family Link connects families who are learning to live with diabetes by providing newsletters, resources, training, parent mentors, and local social and educational events. The Jim Hansen Memorial Symposium is held each year at EXPO to educate and provide the latest information to parents and families of children with type 1 diabetes.
Annual Diabetes Practice Update (ADPU)
Conference held for medical professionals interested in the latest on diabetes care, research and education.
Living with Type 2 Diabetes
Free one-year program for people newly diagnosed with diabetes. Sign up at www.diabetes.org or call 1-800-DIABETES.
Stop Diabetes @ Work
A free employer hosted workplace wellness program provided by the American Diabetes Association to promote diabetes awareness, detection, management and education.
