One of the largest priorities of the American Diabetes Association of Oregon and SW Washington is to fund and conduct critical research to find a cure. With a recent event held with the Digital Health Collaborative we have been able to take another step in the right direction.

During the Happy hour co-hosted by the American Diabetes Association and the Digitial Health Collaborative, Tour de Cure participants and local community members came together to find out more about the projects taking place around diabetes. The Digital Health Collaborative team discussed their partnership with the American Diabetes Association and the Beaverton School District, and students from Beaverton schools participated in a friendly competition to see who could create a new solution to a problem faced by those living with diabetes. Five intelligent students were selected, who are working on a new, discreet way to monitor blood glucose levels.

This was all done with the help of an American Diabetes Association Youth Advocate who shares her own personal concerns surrounding her diabetes experience with the students, to help the students find new, creative solutions to help those living with diabetes. She is also an active advocate who shares her story about thriving with diabetes with students and adults across our state. With her help, the American Diabetes Association is making positive changes for the safety of children living with diabetes in schools.

Funds raised by the American Diabetes Association and Tour de Cure have a major impact on critical research. During Tour, those who are affected by diabetes come together as a community and work towards a cause they are passionate about. Each participant crosses the finish line knowing they made an impact through their fundraising.

We are so excited to welcome back our runners, walkers and runners this Saturday, July 28th for another Tour de Cure!
