Two of our Ama Ghar children were recently recognized for their beautiful penmanship! Satrohan, age 12, and Sumika, age 13, each won first place in a handwriting contest at their school against their respective classes. They both beat approximately 100 other students to take the top prize. They were thrilled to be recognized, and everyone at Ama Ghar was proud of their achievement, especially knowing how much work they both have put in to their studies since arriving at Ama Ghar.
Though from different areas of Nepal, Sumika and Satrohan arrived at Ama Ghar on the same day in April 2025, along with each of their siblings (Sumika has a younger brother, Sushan, and Satrohan has an older sister, Ramita). Prior to coming to Ama Ghar, their schooling had been interrupted, causing them to fall behind their typical grade level. Ama Ghar enrolled them in the local school and has provided extra tutoring to help them catch up. Now, just a year and a half later, Sumika is in class 8, and Satrohan is in class 5. Both are thriving, and their award highlights the tremendous effort they have put into their studies while also adjusting to a new home and school.
Both children are now settled into life at Ama Ghar and are valued members of our family. Sumika is a quiet girl who is very studious, patient, and assured. She enjoys reading and doing puzzles. Despite her quiet nature, she doesn’t shy away from competition and even received an “Outstanding Performance and Achievement Award” in a recent soccer tournament. She is a hard worker and wonderful role model for the younger children at Ama Ghar.
Satrohan is very even-tempered and active. You can often find him playing soccer, basketball, or foosball with his Ama Ghar brothers. He is tall for his age, which makes him a valuable teammate on the basketball court! A hard worker both at school and at home, he is always willing to lend a hand when the aunties at Ama Ghar need help with chores.
From the day children arrive at Ama Ghar, we provide them with the support they need to thrive. All children at Ama Ghar receive an education, nutritious meals, physical and mental health care, and a loving home where they know their needs will be met so they can focus on playing, learning, and growing into independent adults. Your generous support helps provide children like Sumika and Satrohan with a future filled with opportunities that will help them achieve their dreams. Their first place in the handwriting competition is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to see what else they will achieve as they continue to grow!
