Akshar came to Ama Ghar when he was seven years old. As a young boy, he was quiet but very active. He has always seemed to have boundless energy, which is accompanied by a good sense of humor and a mischievous smile. Whether he is helping with chores, playing sports, entertaining the younger children at Ama Ghar, or practicing guitar, his energy and good-natured personality always shines through.
As he has matured, he has become better at managing his endless energy; however, he has struggled to stay attentive in classroom environments. He doesn’t like to sit still all day! In Nepal, compulsory basic education goes through Class 8, which Akshar recently completed. Instead of continuing in a traditional classroom setting, Akshar decided to pursue vocational training, which will better meet his learning style and needs.
He recently enrolled in a residential woodworking vocational training program at a well-regarded vocational school and is liking it! He says he is learning a lot. The hands-on approach of his program gives him an outlet for his energy while he learns and develops new skills. He stays in the dorm at the school during the week but comes home every weekend. Everyone at Ama Ghar misses him (especially the little ones), but we are all happy that he is enjoying his new school. Once he finishes his program, Ama Ghar will keep him busy with new endeavors while he matures and until he is old enough to join the work force.
We are thrilled that Akshar has found a vocation he enjoys that allows him to productively apply his energy while learning new skills and developing a craft that will help him thrive as an independent adult. We strive to help all children at Ama Ghar develop the knowledge, skills, and experience that will help them succeed when they venture out on their own; and your generous financial support makes this possible. With his woodworking training, we are certain that Akshar will be well-prepared with multiple options when the time comes for him to make his own way. Thanks to generous donors like you, Akshar has had the opportunities and support needed to find his path and develop skills that will lead to a successful and fulfilling vocation!
