Khelghar program of Akshara aims to supplement the current schooling system by bridging the gaps in primary schools in Mulshi. The program focuses on contextual learning where concepts are explained using fun activities in rural context. In this interactive and fun learning environment, students discover meaningful relationships between abstract ideas and practical applications in the context of the real world; wherein concepts are internalized through the process of discovering and relating.
Last months have been truly exciting for us. With the help of your very kind and generous gift to Akshara via Global Giving, we could organize teachers' training sessions for our teachers. We also made new teaching aids available for the children to make learning more fun than ever. It was also festive season in India lately, and we used the concepts and festive fun to organize learning activities for the children.
Some of the fun events and activities we conducted were: Trying Rakhis to trees on Rakshabandhan with focus on  the environment, ATM game to teach mathematics, Making of Eco friendly Ganesh Idol to protect the river from pollution, wherein the students made Ganesh idol of clay and took wise decision to immerse the idol in their garden instead of river. We believe that it is of utmost importance that children grow with the understanding of importance of natural resources and environment, so that they can appreciate its importance when they become adults. Fun games and activities like these are very helpful in orienting them towards environmental awareness and conservation. Please find the photos here with this report. For any questions, please write to us at supportakshara@muwci.net. Thanks again to everyone who supported us! We look forward to continuing this relationship and bond with you!
