Platform for Labour Action (PLA) with support from Global Giving has been providing educational support to orphaned and disadvantaged girls living in Internally Displaced People’s (IDP) Camps in Northern Uganda. These children have been living in the camps for several years and in addition to the conflict have suffered from the devastating impact of HIV/AIDS and limited access to health and education facilities.
Last year in 2006 PLA managed to pay for meals, provide uniforms and scholastic materials for one year (three terms) for 12 orphaned and internally displaced children in the camps. Among these, three of the children managed to seat for their Uganda Certificate of Education (O levels) and they have now joined Higher Education in Senior Five.
