Platform for Labour Action with support from GlobalGiving is implementing a project entitled “Educate 100 War and HIV/AIDS Orphaned Ugandan Girls”whose overall goal is to empower female children through education in Lango Sub region. This project was started as a response to the 21-year-old LRA war that left many children orphaned and destitute. There is a pressing need for rehabilitation and empowerment of female children through education. Whereas Lira district is no longer affected by war and the communities are in rehabilitation, there remains a need to better the future for all children especially the female through girl child education.

Platform for Labour Action (PLA) through the GlobalGiving Donors and well wishers are currently providing support for a better future to  eight (8) girls in primary schools (2 in primary six, 3 in primary seven) and 3 Joining Vocational Education

Home monitoring visit

PLA field staff made eight (8) home visists to assess on the welfare of these children as well as provide them with psychosocial support,. During home monitoring visit, children were found  healthy amidst covid-19. However the children are facing challenges with accessing food since most of the livelihoods of their care takers were disrupted as preventive measures from COVID -19 for example selling fruits on the street, selling alcohol among others

Following the government’s closure of schools due to the outbreak of Covid three of primary beneficiaries were unable to continue with their primary education.

As a result the said three (3) girls namely Adongo, Auma, and Amoo  preferred joining vocational Education to enroll in a hairdressing course. That the said course was preferred by the children citing good reasons for their choices among which included; the business does not need capital to begin because customers purchase their own materials for plaiting. These children were taken to Vision ventures women Entrepreneurs Association one of the Association funded by Former GlobalGiving Beneficiaries where there are undertaking vocational trainings to get skills necessary for their chosen business ventures.

Beneficiaries who reported back to school

All the primary six and primary seven beneficiaries reported to schools. These in the said classes include Ajwang, Akullu, Atim, Anyango and  Auma  Primary seven are waiting to do their forth coming examination which will begin on the 31st March 2021 to 1ST April 2021. While vocational students who are waiting to report for their vocational training
