Dear friends,
In a few days, it will be 2 years since the war in Ukraine has begun. It's a somber anniversary, but it reminds us of how much time we have already spent in extraordinary circumstances, amidst explosions, alarms, and crises. Nevertheless, we have survived, largely thanks to you, your support, and solidarity. This is the second winter that Ukraine is enduring during a full-scale war. We have gained experience and better prepared ourselves, facing it with more confidence. However, the war persists, and the situation remains difficult. The economic crisis also takes its toll, as the Ukrainian economy is currently under significant pressure.
Dzherelo Centre confidently navigates this winter and also helps others get through it. Recently, as we mentioned in the previous update, we underwent a significant reorganization, so we have more people under our care - assisting around 3,500 individuals from various categories each month. Our workers travel around the city, inviting homeless people to stay overnight in our shelter, providing them with food, clothing, and documentation assistance. Additionally, at the beginning of January, a ontact centre for people in distress began operating, where individuals can reach out to the staff of the unified Dzherelo Centre and receive assistance. With the support of the GlobalGiving platform, this year we plan to open the Centre for Assistive Technologies. Here, people with disabilities will receive the necessary assistive technologies, including wheelchairs, walkers, as well as communication devices such as eye trackers, hearing aids, and more. This Centre will serve over 100 disabled children each month, providing services for assessing needs in each case, selection, adaptation, and equipment repair.
We continue to support families of disabled children with humanitarian aid, who receive day care, rehabilitation, and early intervention services from us. This quarter Canada-Ukraine Foundation was able to provide us with the necessary humanitarian kits, therefore we directed your donations to set up a contact centre for people in difficult life circumstances. Here, we were able to assist about 500 people with food packages, personal care items, and redirect them to receive social services. The centre will continue to operate, processing around 100 inquiries per month. Many families with young children, as well as those with disabilities, turn to us for help.
Despite the times of great trials, war, and crisis, Dzherelo continues to evolve, provide new services, advocate for legislative changes towards inclusivity and accessibility of social services, and help people in need. It's a great responsibility because now the Centre takes care not only of people with disabilities but also orphans, large families, homeless people, victims of domestic violence, lonely pensioners, and people in difficult life circumstances. Nevertheless, we are ready for this challenge and confidently take on new responsibilities, knowing that with your support, Dzherelo Centre will continue to provide much-needed assistance to those who need it!
Let's stay together, towards victory, praying and believing in God's miracle! Thank you for being with us!
