Improve Livelihoods of 225 HIV-affected families

By Lucy Mathenge | Project Assistant

The year 2018 has started well and we remain optimistic that all will be well and especially weather conditions to favour our farmers.   Currently farmers are preparing their farms in readiness for planting in March and April when the long rains are expected.  Our beneficiaries are happy that at least they harvested some yields late December and January after a very challenging year in terms of weather conditions.   Although not all were able to enjoy the good yields, at least majority have some seeds to plant in the next season and some food to push them through as they wait for the rains.

We have been conducting trainings and involving our beneficiaries in these trainings and they have requested us to build their capacity on nutrition.  We will be conducting the training where we will involve all our beneficiaries to ensure that their nutrition status is also checked.  We are happy that this far they have been doing well in terms of food and nutrition security.   Also together with our partners, we are in the process of preparing a project for them where we will distribute chicken to the beneficiaries to improve their nutrition and especially proteins which has been a challenge to many of them.  With the provision of chicken we will encourage them to make use of the eggs and occasionally chicken meat.  The project will also involve distribution of dairy goats again to ensure they have milk as well as earning some income from both chicken and goats.  It is our hope that the proposal will be accepted and we also invite our global giving friends to consider contributing towards this project.  Thank you all for your kind contributions and support to the less privileged we wish you all the best.
