The Moringa planted in Gorkha have shown very positive results. The Moringa plants have already started producing pods which is consumed as vegetable. Though farmers are able to consume the pods as vegetables its hard for them to get those pods to market. The plantation area is around 15 km from the highway and the road track is very slippery during rainy season. Only four wheel vehicles can reach up to the farmers site and the transporation cost is very hight. The nareast market for the Moringa pods is Kathmandu city and farmers are struggling to get their produce to Kathmandu as the transportation cost is very high and the farmers don't have enough production to fill a whole truck.
Farmers are optimistic that once other farmers also start Moringa plantation the production will be higher which will attract marketers and the farmers will be able to export the pods. Meanwhile support from local municipalities and civil society is expected to furthur support in Moringa plantation activities.
