Moringa plantation in Gorkha

By Shailesh Kumar Acharya | Project Manager

Digging of pits
Digging of pits

The current project is carried out in remote hilly area of Gorkha. A lead farmer (Organic Thakur) was supported with 500 saplings of Moringa and those sapling were planted in his nearby field. Beside the saplings Thakur was also supported for digging pits. The Moringa is a multipurpose tree with high medicinal value.  The seed pods and leaves are used as vegetables and have a good market rate. The plantated sapling pods will be ready to be cultivated in eight months time.

Thakur's Moringa field is also being developed as a demonstration plot. Smallholder farmers of the area are invited to visit the field so they are also motivated to plant those trees. The planted 500 trees are expected to generate income worth of 50000 ruppes in one year time. The other nearby farmers are also excited to see the growth rate of the plant and are willing to plant some trees themselves.
