PROJECT REPORT 46810

ATENCIÓN A FAMILIAS PRODUCTORAS AGROECOLÓGICAS EN EL TIEMPO COVID 19

From March to date, the regions of Ancash and Huánuco have continued with the mandatory quarantine due to the increase in cases of contagion by Covid-19, despite the fact that in several regions of the country the mandatory quarantine culminated in June and the commercial activities gradually. The declaration of a health emergency and mandatory quarantine caused the residents to close the access roads to their towns by installing security gates, so they did not allow the entry or exit of vehicles. These restrictions caused the commercialization of products and inputs to paralyze commercial activity, mainly affecting agroecological producers and therefore their families. Another aspect to note is that many people returned to their places of origin, so there was an exodus from the city to the countryside, the returnees lost their jobs or were unable to get money for their daily survival (they had no resources to feed to their families, or to pay the rent for their rooms).

The actions that are being carried out are the following:

  • Masks have been delivered in the intervention areas where we have been working, recommending their use in public places and when they are with other people who do not live with them.
  • Compliance with the use of masks, social distancing and proper hand washing has been reinforced through various media and social networks, as preventive measures to avoid contagions.
  •  Proper hand washing practices have been reinforced through demonstration sessions, for which purpose buckets with sinks and liquid soap were used.

However, we consider that despite the effort we have been making in the rural areas where we have been working, people still need to comply with the established protocols to prevent the spread of Covid-19. For which, new means are being evaluated to reach a greater number of people to use the masks and thus avoid the spread of the virus, especially when it is difficult to maintain other measures of social distancing.
