Project Update: Agape Old Age Home

By Mahimai Raja A S | Project Leader

The Agape Old Age Home continues to serve as a beacon of love, care, and dignity for the elderly who have been neglected or abandoned by society. Under the mission of Dalit Solidarity, the home provides a nurturing environment for senior citizens—many from Dalit and marginalized backgrounds—who otherwise would have no one to turn to in their old age. Our goal is to empower the elderly to live with comfort, respect, and a renewed sense of belonging.

Over the past months, the project has made significant strides in improving the quality of life for its residents. Currently, 38 elderly men and women are receiving full-time care, including nutritious meals, medical attention, emotional support, and spiritual enrichment. The home has become not only a shelter but a true family where love and compassion prevail.

Health and nutrition remain central to the program. Residents receive three wholesome meals each day, with special diets for those managing diabetes or high blood pressure. Monthly medical check-ups are conducted by local doctors, while physiotherapy sessions have helped several residents regain mobility and confidence. When emergencies arise, our partnerships with nearby hospitals ensure immediate care—saving lives and easing anxiety among the elderly.

Despite inflation and limited resources, the project has continued to grow steadily. Rising food and medical costs pose challenges, as does the need for additional caregivers, yet the spirit of service among staff and volunteers keeps the mission strong. Plans are underway to expand the facility, build a small health clinic, and develop income-generating activities like organic gardening to sustain the home.

The progress of Agape Old Age Home is a testament to what compassion can achieve. With continued support from GlobalGiving donors, we are transforming loneliness into love, and despair into dignity—empowering our elders to live their final years in peace, respect, and happiness.
