After School Program - Quarterly Report
April - June 2026
Dear Friends and Supporters,
As the 2025/26 school year came to a close, this quarter showed how much consistency and mentorship matter. Across our four After School Program locations, volunteers continued providing children with academic support while adding creative workshops, STEM education, health promotion, and one-on-one mentoring.
Alongside preparing students for final exams and celebrating the completed school year, this quarter brought several milestones worth noting, from expanding support to foster families in Sarajevo to seeing a Bosana scholarship recipient in Mostar move into independent living.
Celebrating a Successful School Year
Regular tutoring remained the backbone of the program throughout the quarter, helping children finish the academic year and build stronger study habits.
Beyond schoolwork, children took part in workshops on creativity, environmental responsibility, healthy living, and STEM. These activities support not just grades, but also confidence and a sense of belonging.
Growing Our Community
Throughout the quarter, we kept sharing stories from our programs on Instagram and Facebook, highlighting children's achievements, volunteer work, and the everyday moments that show what the program does across all four cities.
Below is an overview of activities in each city during this period.
Expanding Individualized Support | Tutoring continued at the Children's Home with the same team of volunteers as in the previous period. The program also grew its reach beyond the Home: volunteer Amna continued her long-term work with one child in a foster placement, tracking his educational and developmental progress, while a second foster family joined in April. There, volunteer Marijana began working with two children, providing regular tutoring and following their progress.
Closing the School Year | As school obligations wrapped up in mid-June, volunteers organized knowledge quizzes, drawing sessions, and card-making workshops. These gave children a good way to spend their free time, build social skills, and stay involved in shared activities well after the last exam.
Preparing for the Next Academic Year | With the academic year over, preparations have begun to recruit a new generation of student volunteers. The volunteer call is planned for September, ahead of the October semester.
A Milestone Worth Celebrating | This quarter brought a significant personal achievement for one of our Bosana scholarship recipients. Having grown up in residential care, he recently moved into his own place, a major step into independent living. He continues to volunteer with the After School Program, serving as a role model for younger children and showing what long-term support can lead to.
Program and Team Structure | From February to June, the After School Program team at the INPUT Youth Centre, led by coordinator, kept up steady, structured work at JU "Dom porodica" Zenica. The second half of the year focused heavily on preparing students for the end of term and the close of the school year. The work was carried out by 13 active volunteers, with occasional support from two Bosana Foundation scholarship recipients who joined around their academic schedules, and five subject teachers who stepped in where children faced particular difficulty.
Academic Support | Tutoring was at the centre of the program. As the year drew to a close, demand for extra help, especially in mathematics, physics, and languages, rose sharply, and volunteers responded with individual and group sessions, often outside regular hours and on weekends. Ninth-graders preparing for secondary school entrance received particular attention. Building on progress noted in our previous report, one ninth-grade student who started the second term with a borderline passing grade in mathematics steadily improved it by year's end, an achievement recognized by the Home's educators.
STEM & Innovation | In the STEM Maker Space Lab, children worked on robotics, programming, and 3D modelling. Younger students learned the basics of coding, assembled simple robots, and got to know how sensors work, while older students designed and produced their own objects through 3D modelling and printing, from keychains to small functional models, seeing an idea turn into something they could hold.
Creative & Health Education | Earth Day workshops taught children about caring for the environment, while arts activities and health-education sessions encouraged healthy habits and awareness of looking after themselves and others. As the year ended, the team organized gatherings to relax, mark the children's achievements, and celebrate the work they had put in.
Health & Well-being | Several sessions focused on healthy living and prevention. A lecture on the harms of energy drinks was delivered by a medical doctor, and an interactive workshop on the menstrual cycle was run in cooperation with BoHeMSA (the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Medical Students' Association), offering a safe space for accurate medical information. High-school students residing in the Home also took part in a session on breast cancer prevention and awareness.
Creative & Environmental Learning | On March 8th, girls took part in a workshop titled "Women Who Changed the World," exploring the achievements of figures such as Marie Curie, Helen Keller, and Florence Nightingale. In April, children crafted spring-themed decorations, and for Earth Day they planted a tree in the Children's Home garden, a hands-on lesson in sustainability.
Academic Success | Regular tutoring continued throughout the semester, supporting children through final exams and a successful end to the school year. The program has now entered a well-earned summer break, with preparations already underway for a summer of educational and fun activities.
Looking AheadAs the school year ends, our programs are moving into a new phase, summer activities are already underway in some cities, while others prepare to welcome a new generation of volunteers.
We remain committed to giving every child steady support, real learning opportunities, and a community where they can grow.
None of this would be possible without our volunteers, coordinators, educators, partners, and supporters. Together, we keep building safe spaces where children can learn, grow, and gain confidence in themselves. Thank you for being part of this journey.
