Africa Schoolhouse is thrilled to announce that the new Kanyelele Girls’ Dormitory Compound is almost complete! The team is on track to finish construction by the end of August.
So much progress has been made! The dormitory is ready with built-in bunk beds and cubbies; the showers and toilets are beautifully tiled with concrete sinks now in place; the team is putting finishing touches on the dining hall and kitchen; and the dorm mother’s house is ready for move in! The team is now adding the rainwater catchment system throughout the compound, including a 50,000 liter cistern that will collect and store rainwater.
The girls recently toured their new dormitory home— and they are excited to move in at the end of the month. Most of the girls currently walk between 2-4 hours to and from school and have little time to focus on their studies at home. Living at school will be life-changing for the girls allowing them time to study, rest, play, and thrive. We can’t wait to share the news of move in day!
Thank you for making this compound possible for the Kanyelele girls— we couldn’t have done it without you!
