Milembe Domitory Compound: Assessing Success

By Aimee Bessire | Founder and Director, Africa Schoolhouse

Girls are thriving at the new Milembe School dormitory compound! They have been busy attending school, studying in the multipurpose dining hall, and enjoying time with friends. Thank you for all you have done to make the dormitory compound a reality!

The Africa Schoolhouse team has been actively assessing the success of the dormitory compound project. This has included working with the Milembe teachers and students to learn how the new buildings are functioning. Our goal is to evaluate the compound, improve and adapt as needed, and replicate it as a model for girls who need a supportive space to complete their educations. Recreating this sustainable compound simply and efficiently will support and enhance girls’ access to education in other rural areas of Tanzania. We are researching rural school districts with the greatest need for dormitories in the hopes of identifying our next project to support girls’ educational success.

Africa Schoolhouse Construction Manager, Benjamin, recently represented the organization at a week-long seminar organized by the Tanzanian National Ministry of Education and Vocational Training to bring together NGOs working in the education sector. As part of the meetings, Africa Schoolhouse was able to exchange information with other NGOs to learn about new innovations and to discuss partnerships.

We will continue to cheer on the girls’ success at Milembe Secondary as we begin our research for the next project. Stay tuned for more news! We could not have done it without you! We are so grateful for all you have done to support girls’ education. You are helping to positively impact so many girls' lives!
