Thank you for your generous donation to the Afghanistan Emergency Fund.

When we last wrote to you in March, heavy rains and flooding were affecting communities throughout Afghanistan. In the months since, families have weathered more flash floods, including severe flooding this summer that damaged homes, roads, farmland, and water systems and took the lives of nearly 100 people, and injured hundreds more.

At the same time, another crisis has deepened. Millions of children are experiencing serious malnutrition, while hospitals and health facilities are struggling to keep up with growing needs.

This is why your support matters. Your donations to this fund are helping nonprofit partners respond to urgent needs while sustaining services that communities rely on.

In the words of Development & Ability Organization (DAO):

“This support comes at a critical time and will make a meaningful contribution to our continued work with children and adults living with disabilities, including mine survivors and other vulnerable community members.” — DAO

Your generosity is helping make this work, and much more, possible. Here are a few other ways partners are putting your donation to work:

  • Teach for Afghanistan delivered emergency food, water, shelter, and school supplies to affected children and families after recent floods. Now, as the region grapples with growing food insecurity and the loss of homes and other buildings, Teach for Afghanistan continues to respond to the ongoing crisis while helping students continue their education.
  • Development & Ability Organization (DAO) operates two rehabilitation centers in Kunar and Urugan, providing physiotherapy, prosthetic and orthotic services, gait training, psychosocial support, and referrals for people with disabilities. The team also works with communities to identify people who need rehabilitation services, including people living in remote and underserved areas.
  • Sustainable Development Organization For Women (SDOFW) is distributing food packages, hygiene kits, and clean drinking water to displaced families in eastern Afghanistan. SDOFW’s response focuses on Nangarhar and Kunar, where they have identified food assistance and shelter among the most urgent needs.

Your generosity helps nonprofit partners respond to immediate humanitarian needs while continuing essential services for people across Afghanistan. Thank you for supporting organizations working alongside communities through an extraordinarily challenging period.

With gratitude,

Nicole & the GlobalGiving team

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
