Coral nursery activities conducted during this period include:
Nursery Location: Palmar de Ocoa
Last Monitoring Visit: August 27th
Status: 4 ladder-style rope nurseries were installed July 2016, in replacement of the previous nursery on site that was destroyed by a storm on January. Fragments still alive and are growing healthy.
A second visit was conducted on October 20th, to collect coral fragments from this nursery to install in new coral nursery in Pedernales, see below
Nursery Location: Luperón
Last Monitoring Visit: September 17th
Status: Coralcolonies are growing on the frame nurseries at this site. Sedimentation one day limited work on the nursery, next day was better and work was completed.
Nursery Location: Las Galeras
Last Monitoring Visit: September 24th
Status: A. cervicornis colonies are growing at a steady rate on the frame nurseries at Las Galeras. Good water flow and constant presence from the local Dive Center is vital to this end.
Nursery Location: Pedernales
Last Monitoring Visit: October 21st
Status: A new coral nursery was installed in this location in SW Dominican Republic consisting of 2 metal frames. This new coral nursery was supported by EGE Haina, a local power company using wind mills in this region.
