ORGANIC GARDEN PROGRAMME IN SCHOOLS

The Organic Garden Program is one of the environmental education programs of Earth trust activities. Gardens are brought to life within the confines of small school backyard using organic farming methods, and show students what great change they can produce in their immediate environment. Primarily the programme was implemented intensively in the selected 2 schools on experimental basis for 3 years, which have shown positive sign and enabled for replication of similar service to 14 other rural Panchayat Union Middle Government schools of Nilgiris.

Through the Organic Garden Program, students learn methods of organic farming without the aid of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, growth promoters, or genetic engineering. They are taught to use more natural alternatives, such as organic fertilizer, composting, soil building in nature’s way, and botanical pesticides.

We are helping these schools to develop their organic gardens with the cooperation of parents, teachers, and Earth Trust education team

Besides providing the organic gardening syllabus, segregation of waste ,organic waste converted to compost, little seeds to get started and maintain the organic garden to provide vegetables for mid day meals scheme. When an organic garden has reached a certain degree of success the message is passed to neighboring schools and parents.

These three months the following schools gardens were cleaned & sown with seeds:
