THE EARTH TRUST (ET) REPORT JANUARY, FEBRUARY TO MARCH 2023

Safe food through sustainable agriculture

The ET Farming program continues to support small and marginal farmers and this support becomes crucial in times of the uncertainties of ever changing climate and erratic market dynamics. As the demand for organic vegetables increase with changes in consumer behaviour, we are pleased that many of farmers form the ET collective are finding their own market; and this precisely is our raison d’etre.

We continue to educate unlettered women farm hands on the job and work around their compulsions of family time.

Our local farmers’ outlet at Coonoor at a back packer’s hostel continues to be a platform to tell the story of conserving the soil and the environment. The message goes across to many back packers, tourists and locals alike. Our bulk customers who do their annual due diligence also visited our farmers during this period.

Womens Programme For Optimal Health through Skill Development

Our Womens Programme moved to the next village Jagadala where woman from in and around the village were made aware of the importance on good health above all else. To make this process interesting we teach them knitting, tailoring and crochet. This knowledge serves as probable future livelihood. This programme is ongoing continues 6 days of the week for 3 months and sometimes more depending on village festivals and local circumstances.

ET conducted a breast cancer awareness camp at the remote Kurumbadi village for another Ngo called Asthitva. This was attended by 19 women of the Kurumba tribe.
