Mid-term report for Project #63995

By Josselin Bandu Mikindo | Executive Director

1. Project progress to date

At this mid-term point, the project has not yet begun implementation due to no funds being raised; as of this report, $0 has been contributed toward the $50,022 goal. Consequently, planned activities such as community dialogues, awareness campaigns, training of influencers, and monitoring mechanisms have not yet taken place.

Despite this, initial preparatory steps have been undertaken to ensure readiness once funding becomes available:

  • Context analysis and verification of the hate speech issue was conducted through community consultations and desk research, highlighting increased hate rhetoric that fuels division and social tension in the DRC. United Nations Peacekeeping
  • Key stakeholders, including local leaders, civil society actors, and media representatives, have been consulted to refine the project strategy and ensure relevance.
  • Partnerships with grass-roots women’s groups and youth organisations have been identified to support mobilisation and outreach when the project launches.

2. Challenges and lessons learned

The principal challenge has been lack of financial resources, which has prevented project implementation. This gap underscores two important lessons:

  • Project visibility and donor engagement are critical for initiatives addressing complex social issues like hate speech.
  • Communicating the link between hate speech and community violence may require stronger storytelling and evidence to help potential supporters understand its urgency.

3. Plans for the coming period

Once funding is secured, Blessed Aid plans to begin the following activities:

  • Community awareness campaigns to inform citizens about the harmful impact of hate speech and promote inclusive dialogue.
  • Capacity-building workshops for local leaders, journalists, and youth influencers on responsible communication and conflict-sensitive messaging.
  • Community dialogues and forums to build understanding across ethnic and social groups and reduce inter-group mistrust.
  • Monitoring and reporting tools to track hate speech trends and identify hotspots for intervention.

These activities are designed to mitigate hateful narratives and promote social cohesion, thereby reducing tension and preventing escalation of violence.

4. Accountability to donors and communities

We remain committed to transparency, integrity, and respect for the communities we aim to serve. This report focuses on project updates consistent with GlobalGiving’s reporting guidelines, avoiding solicitations or external donation links, and protecting community dignity. support.globalgiving.org

We encourage donors to stay connected with this project page for updates and to share the initiative with others who value peace, inclusion, and human dignity.

5. Gratitude and Appeal for Support

We sincerely thank GlobalGiving for providing a platform to surface critical social issues, and we are grateful for any support our donors may offer in the future. The need to address hate speech and its harmful effects on social cohesion in the DRC remains urgent, and we look forward to updating you with meaningful activity and impact once funding becomes available.

With gratitude,
Blessed Aid
